Captain Smart has taken a swipe at New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, following the latter’s allegation that some Ashanti MPs opted for community roads instead of flyovers, which he claims contributed to the region’s current infrastructural challenges.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on October 8, 2025, Captain Smart, in a discussion on Accra FM, expressed disappointment in Gabby Otchere-Darko.
He explained that the statement made by the party stalwart was unwarranted and a disgrace to the opposition party, because the Ashanti region is the NPP’s stronghold.
Ashanti NPP MPs reject Gabby Otchere-Darko’s claims over road project choices
“You have the effrontery to tell the whole world that the Ashanti MPs said to you that the people of the Ashanti region do not like development.
“Does that mean that the Ashanti MPs do not like development in the Ashanti region? I am pleading with John Mahama to undertake a project there so we can determine for ourselves whether the NPP MPs truly dislike development. Even if they don’t like development, Otumfuo and the people of the Ashanti region want development,” he said.
Captain Smart further addressed Gabby Otchere-Darko as an educated yet illiterate individual.
According to him, despite Gabby’s educational background, he still cannot reason.
NPP MP criticises Gabby Otchere-Darko again, claims he’s swayed by ‘Prime Minister’ tag
“Gabby Otchere-Darko has no sense. He has gone to school for nothing. Is he supposed to say such a thing for the public to hear? Your party is fighting for 41.8% to win the election in 2028. Look at what he is doing. Any sensible person will not say this in public,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly dismissed Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko’s claims.
In a strongly worded statement dated October 6, 2025, and signed by the Caucus Chairman, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, and Secretary, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the group described Gabby Otchere-Darko’s assertions as “false, inaccurate, and misleading.”
The Caucus said it was “unfortunate and disappointing” that such remarks were made in a manner that sought to malign and unfairly portray MPs from the Ashanti Region.
