Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo is edging closer to a high-profile move to Manchester City, with the forward set to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a £65 million transfer.

The deal is expected to move into its final stages after Bournemouth’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola confirmed on Tuesday that Semenyo will feature in the match, while admitting it could be the attacker’s final appearance for the club.

Everything has been agreed in principle for the 25-year-old to join the Premier League champions through a £65m release clause in his contract, which expires on Friday. City are the only club to have formally contacted Bournemouth to trigger the clause, despite strong interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea before Christmas.

Chelsea made an initial inquiry but decided not to take the move further, while Tottenham have since shifted its focus to other targets.

The transfer will also benefit Championship side Bristol City, who are entitled to 20 per cent of any profit from Semenyo’s sale. The Robins sold the Ghana forward to Bournemouth in January 2023 for around £10m, meaning they stand to receive a significant windfall if the move is completed.

At Manchester City, Semenyo is expected to add depth and versatility to Pep Guardiola’s attacking options. The club are keen to retain both Savinho and Omar Marmoush even if the Ghanaian completes his move, dismissing speculation that their futures could be affected by City’s pursuit of the Bournemouth winger.

Semenyo has been one of Bournemouth’s standout performers this season and has continued to play an important role for the Black Stars. A move to the Etihad Stadium would represent a major step in his career.
