Ghana international Antoine Semenyo scored the second goal of his Manchester City stint on January 13, 2026, inspiring the side to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in their semi-final first-leg clash of the EFL Cup.

The Black Stars attacker only signed for the English giants from AFC Bournemouth last Friday and went on to score on his debut in the team’s 10-1 mauling of Exeter City in the English FA Cup the following day.

Semenyo, who continues to settle into life at the Etihad, started the cup match against Newcastle but was kept quiet throughout the first half.

After recess, he opened the scoring in the 53rd minute after finding space inside the box to meet a well-weighted pass from Bernardo Silva. The forward kept his composure and found the back of the net to give City the lead.

The Ghanaian thought he had doubled his tally ten minutes later when he reacted quickest to a teasing corner delivery from Tijjani Reijnders and fired home from close range. However, celebrations were cut short after a VAR review ruled the goal out for offside.

Manchester City eventually sealed the win deep into stoppage time when Rayan Ait Nouri picked out Rayan Cherki inside the area.

The midfielder wasted no time in striking the ball into the net, leaving the goalkeeper helpless and ensuring City carried a two-goal advantage into the second leg.

With two goals in his first two matches, Antoine Semenyo is enjoying a dream start to his Manchester City career.
