Andre Ayew continued his bright start to 2025 by scoring his second goal of the season in as many games, though it wasn’t enough to secure a result for Le Havre, who fell 2-1 to RC Lens at Stade Océane.

The Ghanaian captain, who scored against his boyhood club Marseille last week and received a standing ovation for refusing to celebrate, wasted no time making his mark again.

Ayew pounced on a rebound from Hervé Koffi’s save in the ninth minute, slotting home from close range to give Le Havre an early lead. It was a moment of precision and opportunism, underscoring the veteran’s knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Despite Ayew’s opener, Le Havre struggled to capitalise on their advantage. Yoann Salmier missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead, and Lens punished the hosts when debutant Goduine Koyalipou headed in the equalizer before halftime.

Lens dominated the second half, with relentless pressure culminating in Deiver Machado’s 77th-minute winner.

While Ayew’s leadership and sharpness offer hope for Le Havre’s survival fight, the team’s sixth consecutive defeat leaves them four points adrift of safety.

For Ayew, back-to-back goals highlight his determination to lift his struggling side in the new year.
