Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reportedly left out veteran forward Andre Ayew from his squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany later this month.
The 36-year-old recently returned to competitive football after a six-month break following his departure from Le Havre. Ayew signed for Dutch side NAC Breda as a free agent and has since made 10 appearances, scoring once for the relegation-threatened club.
His recent return to action sparked calls from sections of fans and pundits for his recall to the national team. However, Addo and his technical team appear to have opted against including the experienced forward in the squad.
Ayew last played for Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage.
Ghana will face Austria on March 27 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna before travelling to Stuttgart to take on Germany on March 30.
The matches form part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
