The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has refuted claims in a viral video alleging that it failed to provide an ambulance for the transfer of a newborn from Kukuom District Hospital to Goaso Government Hospital due to a lack of oxygen.

In a press release issued on February 6, 2026, NAS stated that a fact-finding visit conducted on February 5, 2026, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Director of the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, confirmed that no request for ambulance services was made.

“NAS did not refuse any request for service, as none was received,” the statement said.

While the Asunafo South ambulance is currently under repair, a fully operational ambulance stationed at Mim 20 minutes from Kukuom was available and ready to respond within standard timelines.

NAS records show that between December 27, 2025, and January 30, 2026, the Service successfully transported more than five patients on oxygen support from Kukuom District Hospital, demonstrating that it remains fully functional and capable of emergency transfers.

The Service expressed serious concern over the neonate’s transfer in a taxi, describing it as unauthorised and unsafe, and a breach of emergency referral protocols that put the child at unnecessary clinical risk.

NAS also criticised the spread of inaccurate information, which it said unfairly tarnishes its reputation and undermines public trust in its operations.

It assured the public that it remains fully equipped and operational for oxygen-supported transfers and urged all health facilities to follow proper referral protocols by contacting the emergency line 112 for ambulance services.

The Service reiterated its commitment to patient safety, professionalism, and timely pre-hospital care across Ghana.
