The people of Amantia in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region last Wednesday undertook a massive clean-up exercise to rid the town of filth and promote communal unity.

Led by Nana T.K Okrah Debrah, Akyem Bosome Mponua and Amantia Abusuapanin of Bosome Traditional Council, the residents desilted gutters, swept the town and cleared bushy areas along the town roads.

Nana Debrah urged residents to stay united and proposed regular clean-up exercises to maintain the town’s cleanliness, emphasising the importance of collective effort in keeping Amantia clean and beautiful.

The Unit Committee Chairman, Mr Anthony Appiah on behalf of the Youth and good people of Amantia was very grateful to Nana Okrah for such a bold initiative and pledged the support of the youth and collaboration for such programmes to see to the holistic development of Amantia.

Mr Richard Kwaku Adjei, Municipal Environmental Analyst, who led a team of environmental officers from Asante Akyem Municipality on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive to assist in the exercise, stressed the need for proper waste disposal.

He warned that poor sanitation could divert funds meant for developmental projects to address health emergencies, thereby hindering the town’s progress.

The community Members expressed their excitement and gratitude to Nana Debrah and the leadership for the initiative, promising their full cooperation for future clean-ups.

The exercise has brought a new look to the Amantia town, and residents are optimistic about the benefits of a clean environment, which will inure to the benefit of the Amantia people and the community as a whole.
