Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, has sharply criticized former President John Mahama over his recent comments describing Ghana’s economy as one that has been “criminally mismanaged.”

In a direct response to Mahama’s interview on The Forum on Asaase Radio, Daaku reminded him of his economic record, particularly as he left office in 2016.

“I think he himself has forgotten that he is in his second term. When he was leaving in 2016, what economy did he leave?

“It is very easy to get information on the economy and do a comparison between that of 2016 and 2024,” Daaku stated, urging Mahama to reflect on the state of affairs he handed over.

She continued to highlight the challenges the nation faced under Mahama’s leadership, saying, “He [Mahama] is lucky.

“He didn’t have any international crisis or pandemic, but what did he leave us? He left us with dumsor.”

Daaku underscored the power crisis that plagued the country in 2016, accusing the former president’s administration of neglecting the sector.

“The power sector was terrible. We had Nana Addo Dankwa’s government for eight years that stabilized it. But now, in 2025, our lights are still off,” she added, a clear critique of Mahama’s handling of the energy sector.
