Suspect Anyass Ibrahim has been accused of sexually abusing his 16-year-old player Suspect Anyass Ibrahim has been accused of sexually abusing his 16-year-old player

The Ghana Police Service has shared an update on the case of the 16-year-old footballer who allegedly died after being sodomised by his coach, Anyass Ibrahim.

According to the police, a medical report of the late junior footballer submitted by his mother showed that he was receiving treatment for liver and kidney issues at two hospitals.

The police, in a statement issued on November 8, 2025, stated that it has requested the report from the said hospitals to confirm the validity of the report submitted by the mother of the deceased, who claims he was sexually abused by Anyass Ibrahim.

“A review of the medical reports so far submitted by the deceased’s mother from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital), Kumasi, suggests that the deceased was treated for liver and kidney-related conditions.

“Efforts are ongoing by the police to obtain the deceased’s medical report from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital), Kumasi, for confirmation since both facilities had provided medical care to the deceased prior to his demise. Accordingly, a court order has been secured to be served on both hospitals since earlier formal requests for the reports had been declined,” the police added.

The police also stated that they arrested the coach following the allegation that he sexually abused the 16-year-old boy, but he has since been released on bail, adding that the suspect is expected to be reporting at the CID Headquarters.

It also said that it is looking into a viral video of the victim and the accused person in a “compromising situation.”

Alleged Sodomy Case: Police release Ransford Owusu Ansah’s coach on bail

“Meanwhile, following a viral video involving suspect Ibrahim and a minor in a compromising situation, police have extended investigations into the matter, and we would therefore like to urge all persons with any credible information that can assist the investigation to contact the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters or the nearest police station,” the statement concluded.

    Background:

Sixteen-year-old Ransford Owusu Ansah dreamt of becoming a professional footballer. But what began as a pursuit of talent and opportunity at the Siano Football Academy in Amasaman turned into a tragedy after years of alleged sexual abuse by his coach, Ibrahim Anyass..

According to reports, Anyass allegedly used his authority as head coach to manipulate and exploit the teenager.

Ransford’s mother, according to reports, noticed that her son was growing weak, withdrawn, and fearful, changes she later realised were the effects of sustained trauma from alleged molestation by his coach.

In early 2025, Ransford’s health deteriorated sharply. He eventually confided in his mother, revealing that his coach had been abusing him.

He was rushed to the hospital and later admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he slipped into a coma. After weeks of treatment, he died in March 2025.

Despite the severity of the allegations, no arrest was made for months. Reports suggest that Coach Anyass continued to train children at the academy even after the teenager’s death, a revelation that has sparked widespread outrage.
