The Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Santana, has made a startling revelation about Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his influence on subsequent presidents.
He has claimed that every individual who has become president of Ghana has performed a ritual bath in a river behind the childhood home of the late icon.
Abeiku Santana made these comments during an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on September 16, 2025, while promoting the upcoming ‘NkrumahFest’, aimed at celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Elaborating on the river’s significance, Abeiku Santana narrated a childhood story of the late Kwame Nkrumah and his mother.
“According to history, when Nkrumah was young, his mother had gone to fetch water from that river. While there, he pointed out that she was standing on a fish, and true to his claims, there was a fish where she stood,” Abeiku Santana stated.
Abeiku explained that the people of Nzema have since held a strong belief that Kwame Nkrumah “was not an ordinary person,” and subsequently, the water is still believed to perform miracles.
“Everyone who became President has gone to a river behind Kwame Nkrumah’s house to bath. The people of Nzema believe that Kwame Nkrumah was not an ordinary person. So people believe that the water performs miracles,” he shared.
Positioning NkrumahFest as an opportunity for deeper discovery, Abeiku Santana posed intriguing observations about the former president’s early life.
He pointed out that by 1935, a 26-year-old Nkrumah had somehow managed to travel to the United States of America despite there being no American Embassy or easily accessible telephones in the then Gold Coast.
“How was he able to do it? How was he able to influence thousands of African Americans? How was he able to meet with US President JF Kennedy?” Santana questioned.
He promised that these mysteries and more about Nkrumah’s extraordinary achievements will be explored at the ‘Nkrumahfest’ event.
The NkrumahFest celebration is being promoted as a platform for Ghanaians to learn about the multifaceted mystery of the man, Kwame Nkrumah, and his enduring legacy.
