Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku has suffered an injury scare ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being forced off during the Russian Cup final between Spartak Moscow and FC Krasnodar.

The Ghana international started the final for Spartak Moscow but was substituted in the 44th minute after picking up an injury in the first half of the encounter.

Despite losing Djiku before halftime, the Gladiators went on to draw 1-1 with Krasnodar before eventually winning 4-3 on penalties to lift the trophy.

Details surrounding the defender’s injury are yet to be officially disclosed, but the situation has already raised concerns among Ghanaian football fans ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The 31-year-old is expected to undergo further medical assessment to determine the extent of the injury and the possible recovery timeline.

Djiku remains one of the key defensive figures for the Black Stars and any lengthy absence could be a major setback for Ghana ahead of the tournament.

The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and will open their campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in Group L.
