Interim WBA light heavyweight champion Albert Ramirez will have the opportunity to fight for the vacant regular WBA world title on December 12, when he takes on undefeated contender Sharabutdin Ataev at UMMC Arena in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The bout, presented by RCC Boxing as the co-main event of the unified world championship fight between Dmitrii Bivol and Callum Smith, will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.
“We’re taking Albert Ramirez to the next level. First, we went after the interim world title, and on December 12, it will be the full world title. This is also a tremendous opportunity to be featured as the co-main event for Bivol vs. Smith, because make no mistake, the winner of that fight will be next on our list,” said Camille Estephan, president of EOTTM.
Albert Ramirez (23-0, 19 KO) has been on a mission since signing with the Quebec-based promoter. A representative of Venezuela at the 2016 Olympic Games, he won his first 15 professional bouts before joining EOTTM, then went on to defeat Ricardo Luna, Lenin Castillo, Artur Ziyatdinov, Adam Deines, Marko Calic and Mikey Flannery. In August 2025, he stopped world contender Jerome Papellone in the seventh round to capture the vacant WBA interim world title, which he successfully defended last June against former British champion Lerrone Richards. Ramirez will also be no stranger to Russia’s cold weather, having travelled there a few years ago to serve as a sparring partner for the formidable Artur Beterbiev.
Meanwhile, Sharabutdin Ataev (10-0, 5 KO) also brings an impressive amateur background to the table. Having competed in more than 100 Olympic-style boxing bouts, he notably won the 2023 and 2025 World Championships, as well as the 2024 European Championships. As a professional, it is his most recent victory that stands out, as he became the WBA’s mandatory challenger last July after earning a unanimous decision victory over Jose Uzcategui, a former world champion and cousin of Albert Ramirez.
