The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to officially launch the third edition of the Democracy Cup at a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in Accra.

The event will take place at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House at 11:00 a.m., and is expected to draw a wide range of dignitaries, including government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives from the sporting fraternity, corporate partners, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The Democracy Cup, an initiative designed to promote democratic values through sport, continues to gain prominence as a platform that merges football with governance and national identity. Organisers say the competition aims to harness the unifying power of the game to encourage civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and national cohesion.

As part of efforts to expand its reach, the tournament is also strengthening international partnerships to boost Ghana’s global sporting profile. Reigning champions Accra Hearts of Oak are expected to face English side Sunderland A.F.C. following their triumph in the previous edition.

Further details, including participating teams, fixtures, and prize packages, are expected to be unveiled during the official launch.
