The people of Akyem Adadientem in the Eastern Region on Wednewssday February 4, 2026 evening held a solemn vigil in honour of the late Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah, 60 years after his death.

JB Danquah, a renowned statesman, scholar and one of Ghana’s founding fathers, hailed from Akyem Adadientem. The vigil was led by the Chief of Akyem Adadientem, Barima Ofori Asante, together with his elders and residents of the town.

The event brought together traditional leaders, community members and sympathisers who gathered to reflect on the life, sacrifice and contributions of the late JB Danquah to Ghana’s political and intellectual development.

Speaking at the vigil, Barima Ofori Asante paid tribute to his grandfather and pledged to uphold his values and vision. He said JB Danquah’s commitment to justice, development and the welfare of the people would continue to guide his leadership.

“I will continue the legacy and good work of my grandfather JB Danquah and improve the lives of my people. He will forever live with us,” the chief said.

The vigil ended with prayers and moments of reflection, as the community reaffirmed its pride in JB Danquah’s enduring legacy.
