A National Communication Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Kwarteng, has urged the people of Akwatia to punish the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the polls for what he described as a campaign of terror unleashed against the late Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Ernest Kumi.

Speaking on OTEC FM’s afternoon political show Dwabrem, hosted by Prince Nii Ardey, also known as Dr Cash, on Monday, September 2, 2025, Kwarteng accused the NDC of mounting relentless pressure on the late MP which, according to him, contributed to his untimely death.

“The NDC consistently hounded Ernest Kumi, from Akwatia to Parliament, and even to his own residence. They made his life extremely difficult and subjected him to unnecessary stress. The people of Akwatia must not forget this,” Kwarteng stated.

He alleged that operatives of the NDC went as far as using “state security” elements to intimidate and chase the MP in an attempt to break his resolve and silence his hard work for the constituency.

Kwarteng further called on voters in tomorrow’s by-election to remember the dedication and sacrifices of the late Ernest Kumi by rejecting the NDC at the ballot box.

“The only way to honour the legacy of Hon. Ernest Kumi is to ensure that the NDC does not benefit from the very acts of intimidation and harassment that took his life. The people of Akwatia owe it to him to stand firm and continue the work he started,” he emphasised.

The by-election in Akwatia, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, follows the passing of Hon. Ernest Kumi, who represented the constituency under the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
