Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has thrown his support behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) praising his loyalty, hard work and dedication to Ghana.

In a post shared on his X page on February 4, 2026, he stated, “Newly minted flagbearer of our great party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his spouse, paid a courtesy call on me yesterday.

“I know his mind, his character, his love for Ghana, and his appetite for hard work. He is loyal to party and country. With the full support of our rank and file and the continued generosity of our supporters, I know that he will lead us back to victory. Eighteen years ago, I chose Dr. @MBawumia as my running mate. We stood side by side through four elections.”

Dr Bawumia won the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, securing 56.48% of valid votes cast.

His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, secured 23.76%, while Dr Bryan Acheampong garnered 18.53%.

The presidential primaries were conducted across more than 300 polling centers nationwide, with over 211,000 delegates participating.

Following his victory, Dr Bawumia has pledged inclusive leadership, urging all party stakeholders to work together for a united front.
