Contrary to some reports, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, does not own any property in the United Kingdom.

According to the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, such claims are “completely false and baseless and should be treated with utmost contempt.”

US-based Ghanaian journalist Kevin Taylor recently accused the president of owning several properties outside Ghana and promised to share documents to prove his claims.

Despite piquing the interest of his followers with this promise, Kevin Taylor has failed to share the supposed documents, except to mention 75 Nottingham Terrace, London, City of Westminster, Greater London, NW1 4QE, as one of the properties owned by the President.

However, according to a report by asaaseradio.com, the said property is owned by Stratton Enterprise Holding Limited and was last sold in 2020 for £3,350,000.00.

In a bid to prove his point, Taylor displayed a cropped property search document showing the names of Edward Akufo-Addo and Irene Akufo-Addo, linked to a property sold in 2005 for £350,000.

Taylor misleadingly suggested that this document pertained to 75 Nottingham Terrace and falsely claimed that the property, initially sold for £350,000, was later bought by the President for £3.3 million.

However, according to Asaase investigations, public records from His Majesty’s Land Registry in the UK clarify that in 2005, Edward Akufo-Addo, the President’s younger brother, and his wife Irene acquired 32 Nottingham Terrace, not 75 Nottingham Terrace, for £350,000.00.

A closer examination of Taylor’s document reveals that it is Edward and Irene Akufo-Addo who own a property at 32 Nottingham Terrace, not President Akufo-Addo.

Despite the boldness of Taylor’s allegations, his supposed evidence contradicts the claim that President Akufo-Addo owns any property in the UK.

When contacted by Asaase, Eugene Arhin was initially reluctant to comment on what he termed a “completely false allegation.” He eventually stated, “President Akufo-Addo does not own any property in London or any part of the UK.”

Arhin emphasized that a simple check on the ownership of the properties in question would confirm that they have never belonged to the president. He described the claims as fabrications intended to deceive the public and tarnish the President’s image as he prepares to leave office after a successful eight-year tenure.

Arhin lamented the deliberate lies being spread against the president, noting, “President Akufo-Addo has dedicated his life to serving the people of Ghana with honesty and integrity.”

Addressing the claim that President Akufo-Addo owns Stratton Enterprise Holding Limited, Arhin categorically denied it, stating, “President Akufo-Addo has no knowledge of, let alone ownership of, a company by that name.”
