Akosua Serwaa has been affirmed as Daddy Lumba's only legal wife Akosua Serwaa has been affirmed as Daddy Lumba’s only legal wife

It has emerged that Akosua Serwaa is the only legitimate wife of the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

This came up at a meeting where the family secretary disclosed that the Nkosuohene of Asanteman, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, ruled that Akosua Serwaa remains the only recognised and lawful wife of the late musician.

In a statement dated October 26, 2025, issued on behalf of Akosua Serwaa and the singer’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, the family secretary explained that a meeting was held on October 24, 2025, at Asawasehenefie in Kumasi.

The meeting, chaired by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, was convened to clarify the marital status of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

Both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori Atta, also known as Odo Broni, have claimed to be the musician’s spouse.

Akosua Serwaa denies claims that she will perform widowhood rites with Odo Broni

According to the statement, during the meeting, representatives of Odo Broni and the late singer’s family head, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, were asked to present legal documents or any form of evidence to prove a valid marriage between Odo Broni and Daddy Lumba.

However, neither Odo Broni’s lawyer nor the family head could produce any marriage certificate or legal proof to support her claim.

The statement indicated that, based on the lack of evidence, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie ruled that, in the absence of any legal documentation, the only recognised and lawful widow of the late musician remains Akosua Serwaa.

He added that Akosua Serwaa’s marriage to the late singer was conducted under the Marriage Ordinance and is valid under both Ghanaian and German law.

The statement further said that while the traditional authority’s ruling recognises Akosua Serwaa as the legitimate widow, the final legal determination will come from the Kumasi High Court, where the issue of Daddy Lumba’s marital status is being heard.

“A meeting was held on Friday, 24 October 2025, at Asawasehenefie, chaired by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, Nkosuohene for Asanteman, where the issue of marital status was raised for clarification. At this meeting, a representative of Ms Priscilla Ofori Atta, who has publicly claimed to be a widow, was asked to produce a marriage certificate or any legal documentation proving her marriage to the late Mr Charles Kwadwo Fosuh.

“Neither Ms Ofori Atta’s lawyer nor Abusuapainin Kofi Owusu could present any evidence or marriage certificate to substantiate her claim. Following this, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie ruled that, in the absence of any legal proof of marriage, the only recognized and lawful widow remains Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh, who was married to the deceased under the Marriage Ordinance and is recognized under both Ghanaian and German law. He, however, noted that since the matter is before the court, the final determination will be made judicially,” the statement read.

Akosua Serwaa filed a lawsuit at the Kumasi High Court on October 2, 2025, against Abusua Panyin Kofi Owusu, Priscilla Ofori, and Transitions Funeral Home (Enterprise Funeral Services).

The case challenges actions that allegedly downplay her legal capacity as the musician’s lawful wife.

Both parties appeared in court on October 17, 2025, but the Kumasi High Court Five, presided over by Dorinda Arthur, adjourned proceedings to October 28, 2025.

The adjournment followed a motion filed by the first defendant, Abusua Panin Kofi Owusu, who challenged Akosua Serwaa’s legal capacity as the widow of the deceased musician.
