The  Ajomoro Traditional Council in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region has lamented the poor state

of infrastructure that is depriving the area of avenues to harness it full potentials.

It claimed that the deplorable roads were a huge drawback to enhance growth in agriculture, education and the health sectors of Ajoromo, a farming enclave.

Additionally, the House complained that, “Ajomoro is the most poor, rural, deprived and marginalised of all the seven paramountcies in the Nzemaland.”

The Acting President of Ajomoro Traditional Council, Nana Nyameke III, spoke about the Ajomoro situation in an interview with the Ghanaian Times yesterday.

He said, the sad situation and poverty of Ajomoro reflected in the neglect of their bad roads and they were overjoyed when the Axim -Apataim road was recently graded.

Nana Nyameke explained that during heavy rains, the main Apataim road, which is hilly and sloppy, became slippery and impassable, and heavy trucks dared not used it else get stuck midway.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the main road was convenient for tricycles, he told the Ghanaian Times.

“We were overjoyed when DRIP graded our road and we will be happy if it was bitumised. Ajomoro roads are deplorable. For example, Teleku Bokazo to Simpa Junction and Akango-Sanzule. We plead that our predicament should be tackled with urgency,” he added.

Nana Nyameke lamented that while the six other paramountcies could boast of socio-economic infrastructure such as fishing harbours, petroleum hub and Ghana Gas Company, Ajomoro had virtually nothing to show.

Moreover, he spoke about classrooms without teachers as there were only two teachers in some schools because postings had to come from Accra and appealed to the Ghana Education and the Ministry of Education, to expedite action on the matter.

He believed that the absence of a separate constituency for Ajomoro was one bane to the overall development in the area, complaining that, efforts to get their own district had been denied.

Again, the Acting President said, Ajomoro were not consulted in the appointment of the 30 per cent of assembly members.

Nana Nyameke prayed for the resurfacing of roads to Apataim, Ajomoro capital, the extension of community electricity and the construction of a GIFEX mast to enhance telephony in the area.

He stated that the critical needs of Ajomoro was the posting of teachers to basic schools in Kukuavile, Attakrom and Ebokro, location of Science, Technical, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in schools.

Others are establishment of vocational and technical institute and Information Communication and Technology centres and the construction of a Community -Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound, he added.
