The family of slain investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale has expressed disappointment following the Attorney General’s decision to discharge the key suspect, describing it as another painful setback in their long wait for justice.

According to the family’s spokesperson, Dr Mustapha Idrissu, the ruling has left them heartbroken and questioning the state’s commitment to pursuing the truth behind Hussein-Suale’s killing.

Key suspect in Ahmed Suale’s murder allegedly leaked his photos to popular politician – Report

“It has been a pain to the family over the years, and all we have been looking for is for the state to be able to get the people who committed this heinous crime.

“When somebody gets arrested and the family is excited that at least someone has been arrested and being prosecuted, and all of a sudden you hear that the accused person has been left to go free, definitely we are not happy about this development,” he said in an interview on TV3 and monitored by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Dr Idrissu said the family found it troubling that after six years, the Ghana Police Service has failed to identify the assailants despite having sketches of the suspected killers.

He accused the police of showing a lack of urgency and integrity in their investigations.

“If you had a sketch of an individual and for six good years you have not been able to trace such a person, then it will call your integrity to question. When you say your motto is service with integrity, where is the integrity in the service?” he asked.

He also argued that the case has been neglected because the victim was not part of the security services.

“If the young man were to be a policeman, Ghana Police Service would have found the murderer. They have done it before, and they have done it not once or twice. But once you are not their person, forget it,” he stated.

The family has also thrown its support behind calls for the police to release the sketches of the suspected assailants to the public to aid in identifying the killers.

“Maybe one of them might just be living close to my house. If I find somebody who looks like that, why wouldn’t I report that to the police?” Dr Idrissu added.

The Madina District Court on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, discharged the lead suspect in the case, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, who had been charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with the killing.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a key member of the Tiger Eye P I investigative team, was shot dead by unknown assailants in January 2019.
