Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has shared details about the government’s long-term investment for the 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning squad.

The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) call for the players to collect their returns from the investment plan has sparked an outcry from the public and some members of the winning squad.

Since news broke about the players being asked to claim their funds, some have voiced their disappointment with the returns, while others reportedly feel a sense of injustice.

Speaking during an interview with Angel TV, Badu revealed how the Football Association and the government invested the team’s bonuses in a 15-year financial plan and explained the breakdown of the returns as clarified by the bank.

“The government made this investment for us, and the Football Association’s call for us to pursue the returns means it’s no longer a secret. The interest is GH¢60,760, and the principal is GH¢10,000, meaning if you add them, it’ll be GH¢70,760,” he said.

Badu also disclosed how the bank informed him that part of the money was used to pay for an insurance package, a revelation that has caused unrest among the players.

“When I asked for explanations, they told me they used some of the funds to pay for insurance. This has created a problem among the players because they are questioning why we were never informed about the plan to use part of the money for insurance,” he added.
