Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has opened up about the moment a blood clot in his lungs almost left him fighting for his life.

Badu enjoyed a storied career, especially in the Italian Serie A, where he spent most of his days playing for the likes of Udinese and Hellas Verona.

The midfielder, talking about his time in Italy, recalled a moment that terrified him during his time with Hellas Verona.

According to Agyemang-Badu, during an interview with Sporty FM, a knock he had during training nearly transformed into a deadly battle.

“We were doing a pre-season, and I had a deep knock, and there was a blood clot in my lung. I didn’t feel anything, played the game, went home, and did my recovery the next day, but after I went for dinner, I felt something in my lungs when I breathed,” Agyemang-Badu recalled.

The U20 World Cup winner further shared how he continued playing as there were no immediate signs of anything serious. Then, the discomfort escalated, turning into something far more dangerous one night.

“Trained the next day and played again. But while I was sleeping, it got intense; when I breathed, I could feel it, and luckily for me, the doctor was up when I called him. I wouldn’t know what would have happened if I didn’t get to them that night,” he added.

Agyemang-Badu, however, acknowledged God’s presence, revealing how things could have gone bad had the doctors not responded to his calls.

“It was by His grace because if I called the doctor and he didn’t respond, I wouldn’t know what would have happened,” he further added.

Agyemang-Badu played 78 times for the national team, including appearances in two World Cups and five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, scoring 11 goals before retiring from international football in 2020.
