Builsa North Member of Parliament, James Agalga, and John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, have been appointed as Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior in Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

Their roles will involve overseeing the country’s security strategy, defence policy, border security, prisons, immigration, fire service, and narcotics control, ensuring thorough scrutiny of government policies in these sectors.

James Agalga, a legal practitioner and fourth-term MP for Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region, brings extensive experience as a former Deputy Minister of Interior.

As chairman, he will lead discussions on critical issues like law enforcement reforms, border security, and counterterrorism to enhance national safety and stability.

John Ntim Fordjour, a third-term MP for Assin South Constituency in the Central Region, and former Deputy Minister of Education, takes on the role of Ranking Member.

A mineral engineer with expertise in security sector governance, he will lead the Minority in scrutinising policies and ensuring they align with democratic principles and national interests.

The committee is supported by Peter Toobu, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and second-term MP for Wa West, as Vice Chairman, and Kofi Amankwah-Manu, a former Deputy Minister of Defence and second-term MP for Atwima Kwanwoma, as Deputy Ranking Member.

Together, they are expected to address security concerns, bridge policy gaps, and foster bipartisan collaboration for internal stability.
