AfroFuture has dissociated itself from a viral social media video in which an individual identified as Abubakari Sadick, popularly known as “Cyborg,” was seen discharging a firearm at a public event.

The video, which surfaced online on December 28, 2025, sparked widespread discussions after Cyborg was captured firing warning shots into the air with a Derya MK-12 firearm at an event held at El-Wak.

In the footage, Cyborg explained that he fired the shots as a sign of respect to Nigerian Afrobeats singer Asake, following the artiste’s performance at the AfroFuture concert.

Following the circulation of the video, AfroFuture has released a statement dissociating itself from the incident.

In the statement made available to GhanaWeb and dated January 2, 2025, the event organisers clarified that the alleged shooting did not occur during the AfroFuture Festival.

“AfroFuture is aware of misinformation circulating online regarding the alleged discharge of a firearm at AfroFuture Festival.

“We want to state clearly and unequivocally that this incident did not occur at AfroFuture, and there was no security action or disruption related to the discharge of a firearm on festival grounds at any time,” the statement read.

AfroFuture further assured patrons of its commitment to safety at all its events.

“AfroFuture operates with comprehensive safety protocols in place, including professional security teams, coordinated emergency response planning, and close collaboration with local authorities.

“The safety and well-being of our guests, artistes, staff, and families are our highest priority, and we take that responsibility extremely seriously,” it added.
