Media personality Yaa Yeboah has praised Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy for laying the foundation for the Afro-Dancehall genre, which is now gaining recognition across Africa and beyond.

Her comments come amid conversations on social media about who truly created and coined the term Afro-Dancehall.

Taking to her X page on July 2, 2025, Yaa Yeboah shared her thoughts on the subject.

She credited Stonebwoy for shaping the genre and setting the pace for others to follow.

“Today, Afro-Dancehall is more than a buzzword, it’s a legitimate and growing subgenre with artists across Africa and the diaspora borrowing from the blueprint Stonebwoy laid. He took two worlds and merged them, respecting both while creating something new,” she wrote.

Yaa Yeboah explained that Stonebwoy brought together two musical cultures, Africa and the Caribbean, and fused them in a way that created a unique sound.

She added that Stonebwoy didn’t just follow a trend, but was actually responsible for building and defining the genre from the ground up.

“As African music continues to rise globally, @stonebwoy’s role as a genre-definer becomes even more significant. He didn’t just ride the wave, he built it. And in every lyric, every beat drop, and every electrifying performance, he continues to champion the sound he coined: Afro-Dancehall,” she continued.
