Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency and President of the African Parliamentarians’ Forum on Population and Development, has hosted a three-day study tour of MPs from different African countries in Accra. In a speech during the tour, he described the initiative as a major milestone for the Forum.

The tour, comprising members of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the African Parliamentarians’ Forum on Population and Development (APFPD), concluded this weekend with a focus on collaboration and knowledge-sharing around population and development. It highlighted Ghana’s innovative policies and practical approaches, which have become a model for sustainable progress in Africa.

“This study tour has given African leaders a unique chance to reflect on Ghana’s successes and challenges in addressing population and development issues,” Dr. Pelpuo noted. “By sharing experiences, we have laid the foundation for solutions that can drive meaningful change across the continent.”

The delegation, made up of senior parliamentarians from various African countries, met with key stakeholders in Ghana, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the legislature. Discussions centred on Ghana’s progress in meeting international commitments such as the African Agenda on Demographic Dividend and Population Development (AADPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Participants explored Ghana’s initiatives in areas such as family planning, gender equality, and youth empowerment. The tour provided a platform for exchanging ideas, tackling shared challenges, and brainstorming strategies to strengthen population and development efforts across Africa.

The visit left delegates inspired and better prepared to address the pressing population and development issues in their own countries. It also reinforced their collective commitment to driving sustainable growth and progress across the continent.
