President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s housing deficit, highlighting steady progress on key affordable housing initiatives across the country.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on February 27, 2026, President Mahama noted that the Tema Development Company (TDC) is making significant progress on an 800-unit project at Community 26.

According to the President, this forms part of a broader affordable housing agenda aimed at enhancing access to quality homes while strengthening TDC’s position as a major player in Ghana’s real estate sector.

In December 2025, President Mahama cut the sod for the Oxygen City Housing Project in Ho, Volta Region, describing it as a major step toward reducing the country’s housing deficit.

The Oxygen City project, the government says, is an urban development being undertaken by TDC Ghana Limited on about 1,860 acres of land. It will include multi-storey apartments, two- and three-bedroom units, roads, water and electricity services, a hospital, a hotel, schools, markets, shopping facilities, and recreational areas.

The President stressed that increasing the stock of affordable homes remains central to efforts to reduce the housing shortfall, which continues to widen due to rapid urbanisation and population growth.

“The TDC in Ghana is also steadily advancing work on 800 housing units under the affordable housing project at Community 26, to position TDC Ghana as a key player in Ghana’s housing industry,” he said.

With demand for housing steadily rising, President Mahama explained that sustained investment in large-scale housing projects will be critical to improving access to safe, affordable, and modern accommodation for Ghanaians.
