Founder of Pottersville International Church, Bishop Samuel Benjamin Owusu, has expressed deep concern over the living conditions of people from Adansi, despite the area’s significant contribution to Ghana’s economy through its natural resources.

According to Bishop Owusu, who hails from Adansi in the Ashanti Region, the lack of sustainable employment opportunities has forced many young people to migrate to Accra, where they settle in slums and engage in menial jobs just to survive.

Speaking on Behind The Pulpit with MzGee, the Bishop—who also serves as a United Nations Peace Ambassador—shared a personal experience from his early years in search of better opportunities. He revealed that his journey for greener pastures led him to Sodom and Gomorrah, where he found many people from Adansi had already settled.

“Many of the village boys come there. Many of the Adansi boys do not have jobs; they do not have work to do,” he said. “If you go to Sodom and Gomorrah or Accra Circle and look at the boys selling on the streets, many of them are from the Ashanti Region—particularly Adansi.”

Bishop Owusu described the situation as deeply troubling, given the abundance of gold and other natural resources in the area.

“It is so sad that we have gold and powerful resources that make the nation and companies very rich, yet our people are extremely poor. There are no jobs, nowhere to go,” he lamented.
