Ghana Water Limited has announced the appointment of Adam Mutawakilu as its Acting Managing Director.

His appointment was made by President John Mahama and will be finalized after approval by the company’s Board and the Public Services Commission.

In his first address to staff, Mutawakilu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the company.

He promised to work closely with all stakeholders to achieve Ghana Water’s objectives.

Mutawakilu also acknowledged the vital role Ghana Water plays in providing a steady supply of clean water to communities across the country, especially those in areas that lack access to this essential service.

“I may not have an extensive background in water management, but I bring experience in energy, finance, and governance, and I am eager to learn from and work with the dedicated professionals at Ghana Water Limited,” he stated.

To achieve the president’s vision for the water sector, Mutawakilu emphasised the importance of management and staff working together to ensure every community has access to clean drinking water.

He stated that this collective effort will guarantee that no community is left behind in receiving this essential service.

Meanwhile, Adam Mutawakilu brings a wealth of experience in public administration, finance, and governance.

He holds an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Energy Economics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and an MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies from the University of Cape Coast.

His extensive academic background also includes a Commonwealth Executive Master’s in Business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an Executive Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana School of Governance and Leadership.

Before becoming the Acting Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu had a distinguished career in public service.

He was the first Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, serving from 2013 to 2020.

During his time in Parliament, he played a key role as the Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee.

Prior to his parliamentary career, Mutawakilu held two significant positions. He served as the District Chief Executive for West Gonja District, where he oversaw local governance and development initiatives.

Additionally, he worked as the Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Central Administration, managing the university’s financial affairs.

Ghana Water Limited in a statement reiterated its commitment to providing clean and reliable water to communities nationwide.

“GWL expresses its full support for Hon. Mutawakilu and the President’s vision for the water sector and looks forward to a productive and transformative tenure under his leadership,” the statement concluded.
