The 2026 All Ghana Badminton Open Championships will take center stage at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra from March 20 to 23, bringing together the country’s top shuttlers in a highly anticipated national showdown.

According to the Ghana Badminton Association (BAG), 101 players have registered to compete across five divisions: Under-15, Under-19, Schools, Seniors, and Veterans. Beyond vying for domestic glory, participants will be competing for national ranking points and a chance to strengthen their prospects for international representation. Outstanding performers could earn selection for events such as the 2026 JE Wilson Ghana International and Junior Championships, the Africa U-19 Championships, the World Junior Championships in Indonesia, and the 2027 African Games in Egypt.

The tournament also serves as a platform for technical development, with 49 officials set to oversee matches. Additional training sessions will be offered for personnel aiming to become certified umpires and technical officials, enhancing the sport’s infrastructure in Ghana.

Pre-tournament practice sessions begin on Wednesday, March 18, allowing players to familiarize themselves with the venue ahead of the opening matches. Organizers are expecting strong spectator turnout, bolstered by the government’s declaration of March 20 and 23 as public holidays.

Adding a flair of style to the competition, strict dress code enforcement will be in place, with incentives for the Best Dressed Participants, including GH¢250 for singles players and GH¢500 for doubles pairs.

With on-court battles set to be fierce and rising prospects aiming to make their mark, the championship promises to be a pivotal moment for Ghanaian badminton, spotlighting both talent and professionalism in the sport.
