The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws (L.L.D) Honoris Causa by Accra Metropolitan University in recognition of his outstanding leadership, unwavering dedication to public service, and commitment to modernizing policing in Ghana.
The honorary degree was conferred during the university’s 2025 graduation ceremony an event marked by pride, reflection, and celebration. The ceremony, held at the university’s main campus in Accra, drew dignitaries from across Ghana, including government officials, academic leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the Ghana Police Service.
Clad in ceremonial regalia, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was visibly moved as he received the university’s highest honour. In an emotional acceptance speech, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university’s leadership and applauded its commitment to education and national development.
“This recognition is not just for me, but for every man and woman in uniform who puts their life on the line daily to serve and protect. I accept this honour on behalf of the Ghana Police Service,” he said.
The IGP used the occasion to deliver a stirring message to both police personnel and graduates. He urged members of the service to carry out their duties with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve.
He also encouraged graduates to embrace leadership and innovation in their respective fields and to become agents of positive change in society.
Founded in 2014 as Laweh University College, Accra Metropolitan University became Ghana’s first fully accredited Open University, pioneering flexible and inclusive education across the country. In December 2024, it was granted a presidential charter, gaining full autonomy and establishing a Governing Council to chart its long-term vision and growth.
University officials praised IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno for his transformational leadership within the Ghana Police Service, noting that his values mirror the university’s mission.
