On the afternoon of Thursday, May 22, 2025, an accident happened on the Tema Motorway’s underbridge section involving a tipper truck, a red commercial bus, and another passenger car. The event occurred near the Shiashie-bound part of the road, causing alarm among vehicles and passengers.

According to eyewitnesses, the red bus was driven recklessly, racing another vehicle to pick up passengers. Both trucks were going quickly and appeared to be competing. During the chase, a tipper truck chasing them failed to stop in time and collided with the back of one of the automobiles.

The impact of the crash propelled the passenger vehicle forward into the red bus, causing a chain collision. Several people were injured, while others escaped unharmed. Bystanders assisted the injured, who were then transferred to a local hospital for treatment.

Drivers who witnessed the accident expressed alarm about the rising occurrence of reckless driving on the highway. “These commercial drivers are constantly scrambling for passengers. It’s only a matter of time before more people are killed if nothing is done,” a driver warned.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the location shortly after the event. Police officers arrived to control traffic and investigate the cause of the incident. The damaged automobiles were eventually taken away to clear the road for smoother travel.

The Ghana Police Service has warned drivers, particularly commercial drivers, to avoid speeding and racing for passengers, as such behavior puts lives at risk. They also invited the public to report any reckless driving they saw on the road.

Meanwhile, officials have stated that investigations are ongoing and that anybody found culpable would face legal consequences.
