The lawyer representing the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba has stated that only the family led by Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, has the authority to decide whether Akosua Serwaa or Odo Broni will perform the widowhood rites.

Speaking to the media on October 28, 2025 after court hearing, the legal team clarified that the court refrained from making any pronouncement on the issue of who performs the widowhood rite.

I’m not ready for my brother’s funeral on December 6 – Ernestina Fosu

“That is a decision that will be made by the family. That is a determination that the court has declined to make a pronouncement on. It is the family, led by the Abusuapanin, who will decide who performs the widowhood rite,” the lawyer explained.

On October 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court dismissed an injunction application aimed at halting the burial and funeral arrangements for Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

The application, filed by Akosua Serwaa, the late musician’s legal wife, sought to block the head of the Fosu family and another woman also identifying as his spouse from proceeding with the funeral rites.

Akosua Serwaa had argued that she was being sidelined in the funeral preparations for her husband, Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025.

According to her statement of claims, she only discovered the funeral date through social media, accusing Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu and others of excluding her from decisions regarding her late husband’s burial.
