The lawyer for Kwame Baffoe Abronye, Enoch Afoakwa, has confirmed that his client, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is on a hunger strike.
Speaking to journalists at the Accra Circuit Court on Friday, September 12, 2025, Afoakwa stated that his client’s decision to neither eat nor drink is a measure he considers necessary to protect his life.
“Certainly! Once you are being handled this way, will you trust that the same people handling you in this manner as if you have committed a treasonable offense, when they give you water, will you take it? When they give you food, will you take it? Certainly, he needs to protect his life under the circumstances and that’s the reason that he’s on hunger strike,” he confirmed.
Abronye has since been remanded again by the Accra Circuit Court.
Despite the fierce arguments by his lawyers during proceedings on Friday, September 12, 2025, the court denied Abronye bail, over the charge of “offensive conduct” slapped against him.
According to GhanaWeb’s reporter, George Ayisi, the court remanded Abronye DC for one week after denying him bail.
The judge adjourned the case to Friday, September 19, 2025.
