The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has launched a major sports development initiative aimed at identifying, nurturing and managing sporting talents across the constituency.

The initiative, being undertaken in collaboration with the Awula Foundation and known as the Ablekuma North Sports Union (ANSU), seeks to provide young people with the right guidance, opportunities and professional support to develop their sporting abilities across all disciplines.

The project is designed to reach every corner of the constituency, ensuring that no talent goes unnoticed.

Speaking at the launch, Aubynn expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ablekuma North for their unwavering support and confidence in her leadership. She prayed for God’s guidance to enable her to always remember and serve the people diligently.

She noted that although the Awula Foundation has been involved in several community support initiatives over the years, venturing into sports development marks a new but strategic direction aimed at empowering the youth.

According to her, sports remain a powerful tool for discipline, unity, and socio-economic advancement.

The MP appealed to residents to help identify talented young people, stressing that talent spotting should be done irrespective of personal relationships, political affiliation, or background.

She emphasised that the initiative is non-partisan and open to all.

Aubynn admitted that she does not have all the answers and welcomed ideas, suggestions and partnerships to strengthen the Sports Union.

She further disclosed that the Wesley Grammar School astroturf will soon be commissioned, while work on a new astroturf project at Kwasiman is expected to commence to further enhance sports development in the constituency.

She urged the youth to take full advantage of ANSU and encouraged them to approach the MP’s office for the necessary support.

The MP also charged the newly constituted executives of ANSU, along with focal persons representing all 14 electoral areas, to work as a united team to achieve the objectives of the Union.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Adjoa Agyapomah Ansong, commended the MP for her foresight, particularly in leveraging technology to support sports development among the youth.

In a solidarity message, the Chairman of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee of Parliament and MP for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey, described the initiative as unprecedented and applauded its non-partisan nature.

He praised the people of Ablekuma North for electing a selfless leader who prioritizes the interests of the constituency.

Norgbey also commended the initiative for embracing all sporting disciplines and revealed that the proposed Sports Fund Bill, once passed, will help generate resources for sports development in Ablekuma North and across the country.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Owen Kwame Frimpong, encouraged the people of Ablekuma North to fully support the initiative.

He also appealed for a strong culture of maintenance to ensure that the sports facilities are preserved for long-term use.

The slogan of the Ablekuma North Sports Union (ANSU) is “ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM.”
