Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has called out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for hypocrisy in addressing corruption within the party. Following the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections, A Plus questioned why NPP members are now acknowledging corruption issues they previously dismissed and attacked others for pointing out.

A Plus’s comments highlight the frustration with the lack of accountability and honesty among NPP leaders and supporters. He criticized an NPP communicator who offered to guide the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in uncovering NPP officials who have stolen from the country, asking why they remained silent for eight years and even attacked those who exposed the corruption.

This issue is part of a broader problem of political hypocrisy, where acknowledgment of systemic problems often only arises after a loss of power. As the NDC takes over, A Plus’s comments serve as a call for consistent transparency and integrity in political discourse and governance.

The NPP has previously promised to be robust on corruption, with the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Papa Owusu Ankomah, stating that the party would adopt a more robust approach to fighting corruption if voted into power ¹. However, the party’s actions have been criticized, with some accusing them of politicizing state institutions and engaging in corruption .
