Hon. Gertrude Nartey has become a beacon of political inspiration, not only for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but also for its political rivals in the Atwimah Nwabiagya North Municipality (ANNM).
Having resided in the municipality since 2011, I have witnessed the transformation of the NDC from an underdog party into a formidable political force, thanks to the collective efforts of its members. Among the outstanding figures who have championed this growth, Hon. Gertrude Nartey stands out as a key architect of the party’s prominence in ANNM.
Her unwavering dedication has earned her the nickname “NDC Mother,” a testament to her influence and nurturing role within the party. Despite the challenges she has faced, including financial sacrifices that led to the loss of her business due to her bold decision to appear on the ballot as the NDC parliamentary candidate, she remains a symbol of resilience.
The party acknowledged her efforts by allowing her to run unopposed as their parliamentary candidate in the 2020 elections. Though she did not win, her candidacy significantly increased NDC’s votes in the municipality.
Beyond politics, Hon. Nartey’s commitment to community development is evident. She has established a private school, offering education from preschool to junior high, with plans to expand to the senior high and tertiary levels. Her passion for uplifting the municipality underscores her deep-rooted dedication to public service.
At the recent State of the Nation Address, H.E. John Mahama emphasized that competent women should not be sidelined in national governance. If the NDC truly values this principle, then Hon. Gertrude Nartey should be the rightful choice for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position in ANNM. Her appointment would not only advance gender representation but also reward years of steadfast service and sacrifice.
With a track record that includes roles as a Branch Women’s Organizer, Constituency Executive Member, Deputy Women’s Organizer, former Parliamentary Candidate, and key Financier of the Constituency from 2012 to 2020, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and loyalty to the party.
If the NDC seeks to inspire dedication among its members and fulfill the aspirations of the people in ANNM, then appointing Hon. Gertrude Nartey as MCE is the clear and just decision. Her leadership is not just an asset to the party but a beacon of hope for the community.
