The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has made fresh concerns about what he describes as Ghana’s inconsistent posture on democracy and regional security.

The veteran journalist argued that while Ghana is sending soldiers to Benin because it is opposed to coups, the country is at the same time pledging to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Burkina Faso, which is currently under a military regime.

“While Ghana is sending soldiers to Benin because it is opposed to coups, it is busy pledging to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Burkina Faso currently led by a coup regime. A little bit of consistency may be useful,” he said.

Benin has faced political tensions recently, prompting calls for support from regional partners to uphold democratic governance.

Burkina Faso has also been under military rule since the 2022 coup that ousted its civilian government, raising concerns among international observers about human rights and democratic backsliding.

‘Who are you to warn judges’ – Kwesi Pratt slams Afenyo-Markin

Pratt’s comments follow renewed public debates over Ghana’s role in regional peacekeeping efforts and its engagements with neighbouring countries led by military juntas.

Pratt maintained that Ghana cannot be selective in its democratic principles, insisting that the country must adopt a clear and coherent approach in dealing with unconstitutional governments across the sub-region.
