Former Ghanaian Ambassador to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, H.E. Alhaji Said Sinare, has launched a scathing attack on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its plans to stage a demonstration against President John Dramani Mahama in response to the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

In a fiery Facebook post, the influential National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart dismissed the planned protest as a “hypocritical and politically bankrupt charade.”

Alhaji Sinare, who currently serves as the National Chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee of the ruling NDC and is widely regarded as the “Zongo President,” accused the NPP of engaging in double standards.

He argued that the same party, which allegedly politicized and packed the judiciary with loyalists during its time in power, now seeks to champion judicial independence only because it suits their political agenda.

“The NPP has a disgraceful history of eroding institutional integrity for its own selfish gain,” Sinare wrote. “They shielded corrupt officials, manipulated judicial processes, and trampled on the independence of the courts. Now they feign outrage to revive their fading relevance,” he added.

The former Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central further urged Ghanaians to see through what he described as the NPP’s opportunistic theatrics. He called on the public to reject the demonstration, which he said is driven more by a thirst for power than any genuine concern for justice.

He also criticized Chief Justice Torkornoo, highlighting what he called “questionable rulings, administrative opacity, and perceived partisan bias,” which, according to him, have raised serious concerns about her impartiality.

“The suspension of the Chief Justice should be a moment for sober national reflection, not a stage for political drama,” he added.

Sinare’s statement, delivered with characteristic bluntness, concluded with a warning against joining what he sees as a misguided cause:

“This demonstration is not about justice; it’s about power, and it must be snubbed with the contempt it deserves—unless you want to burn fat!”

    Background

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s suspension has sparked sharp reactions across Ghana’s political spectrum.

While the NPP has positioned itself as a defender of judicial independence, critics like Alhaji Sinare accuse the party of playing politics with the issue.

The NDC, for its part, has remained cautious in its official statements, though individual party figures such as Sinare have not held back in their criticism.
