The village of Kechiebi in the Oti Region is in sorrow following the tragic death of Fatima Fatawu, 20, who committed suicide after her in-laws accused her of adultery.

Fatima, a young mother known for her outgoing nature, was allegedly subjected to harsh harassment and public humiliation by her husband’s family.

According to reports, the claims arose from family disputes and jealousy.

Adom News learned that Fatima, who is married to a guy named Fatawu, was suspected of infidelity due to allegations about her husband’s incapacity to please her.

Tensions rose when a sister-in-law allegedly discovered Fatima leaving another man’s room early Tuesday morning and publicly chastised her.

Fatima, overcome with guilt and unable to handle it, walked to a neighboring woodland and hanged herself with a nylon rope.

Her remains has now been taken to Togo for burial following a police autopsy and investigation.

The episode has left the community in shock, prompting talks on mental health and the impact of family conflicts.
