Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says Ghana must view the 2026 World Cup as a global stage to showcase its capacity to host the tournament.

He believes the country’s performance, both competitively and administratively, in North America will influence future hosting prospects and urged officials to approach the assignment with deliberate national focus.

Adams, who has previously argued that Ghana can co-host with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, made the remarks during the inauguration of an 11-member Inter-Ministerial Oversight Committee at Jubilee House on Wednesday.

The body includes Abedi Pele, Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe, and GFA President Kurt Okraku.

It has been mandated to coordinate Ghana’s preparations and ensure a unified national strategy throughout the expanded competition.

At the ceremony, Adams highlighted the importance of drawing from previous experiences to shape Ghana’s approach.

“Experiences of the past, both positive and negative, will guide us into the future, ensuring that we do not just go to kick the ball, but that by the time the whole process ends, Ghana will emerge as one of the biggest winners,” Adams said.

“The World Cup will be an interesting stage. We will go there and make Ghana and Africa proud, so that when we bid to host in the future, we will be seriously considered because of the strong role we played.”

The Black Stars qualified convincingly and will make their fifth appearance at the finals in Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
