An Accra High Court has directed counsel for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, to file an application requesting further disclosures from the State.

The court also ordered the defence to file the names and addresses of witnesses they intend to call should a prima facie case be established against the accused.

The orders followed a submission by Priscilla Lartey, a Senior State Attorney, who informed the court that the State had filed its disclosures and that the documents were available for the Case Management Conference.

Defence counsel, Andy Appiah-Kubi, told the court that at the previous sitting the prosecution had indicated its intention to file additional disclosures.

He said the defence intended to rely on some documents the State did not plan to use as part of its evidence.

“It is our prayer that since the documents we intend to rely on are not part of the disclosures, we will file a motion seeking your orders directing the prosecution to make those disclosures,” Appiah-Kubi said.

Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party and Director of Akonta Mining Company Limited, is standing trial for allegedly facilitating an unlicensed mining operation at Samreboi in the Western Region.

His alleged accomplice, Kwame Antwi, a co-director who is currently at large, has been charged with assigning mineral rights without approval.

Akonta Mining Company Limited has also been joined to the criminal suit.

Chairman Wontumi has pleaded not guilty and has been granted GH₵15 million bail with three sureties by the court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay.

The case has been adjourned to December 8, 2025.
