The excitement is building! In just a few days, the second “Cuban Boxing Night” will take place at the Melia Internacional in Varadero – live and free on the official AGON Sports YouTube channel. The final preparations are underway for the AGON athletes: the last sparring sessions are already complete, and now the final fine-tuning is in full swing. Tomorrow they’ll weigh in, and on Saturday they’ll step into the ring! All the fighters are in outstanding shape and eager to shine in Varadero this weekend.
The main event of the evening features Erislandy Alvarez, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist, who aims to take the next step towards the top of the world rankings. Alvarez will face Mexican Rogelio Jimenez in a ten-round WBA Continental Latin America title fight. Following an intensive training camp in China and his native Cuba, Alvarez, according to his team, is bringing “the best shape of his young professional career” to Varadero. AGON matchmaker Flavio Oleaga Mirabal is extremely pleased: “This week is all about precision and rhythm. Erislandy has had a fantastic camp. He is faster, more focused, and hungrier than ever before. He is ready to make a statement.”
Lazaro Alvarez, the three-time amateur world champion, is also eager to climb back into the ring in front of his home crowd. In his tenth professional fight, Raul Hernandez aims to spoil his chances when both boxers compete for the WBA Continental Americas lightweight title.
Moussa Gholam is also eager for his WBA Continental Gold America title fight. The super featherweight from Morocco will face the Argentinian “Pitbull” Nicolas Nahuel Botelli. Gholam wants to reaffirm his top international status and further extend his impressive record. In the super welterweight division, Yusnier Sorsano Ruiz is preparing for his second professional fight. After an explosive debut in Berlin in September, he aims to take the next step against the experienced Argentinian Nicolas David Veron. According to his team, Ruiz has “consistently shone” in training and is ready both physically and mentally.
AGON’s roster is rounded out by Malek Semmo, who will be fighting his third professional bout in the middleweight division. The 21-year-old feels particularly strong after his final sparring sessions and is looking forward to his first appearance in front of a Cuban audience. In addition, four exciting Cuban fighters will be making their professional debuts: Saidel Horta, Nelson Williams, Keylor Garcia, and Alejandro Claro.
Promoter Ingo Volckmann emphasizes the special significance of the event: “Our guys have had a fantastic preparation. The atmosphere here in Varadero motivates every single one of them. We want to show what AGON Sports can achieve internationally, and we’re bringing this event to the fans’ homes free of charge.”
All fights of the “Cuban Boxing Night” will be broadcast live and free-to-air worldwide on the official AGON Sports YouTube channel. Fight Night, tropical atmosphere, Cuban boxing passion – Varadero is ready.
