A woman in her 20s has died after she was attacked by a shark during an early-morning swim at a popular holiday destination.
Emergency services were called to Kylie’s Beach at Crowdy Bay, south of Port Macquarie, about 6.30am following reports of a shark attack.
NSW Police confirmed a woman and man, both aged in their 20s, were attacked.
Despite receiving assistance from witnesses, the woman died before paramedics arrived. She is yet to be formally identified.
The man survived the attack and was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with a ‘serious leg injury’, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
He is now in a stable condition.
Daily Mail understands the couple were staying at Kylie’s beach campground, near the site of the shark attack.
The beach has been closed as experts from the Department of Primary Industries work to establish the species of shark involved.

Surrounding beaches will also be closed for at least 24 hours while Surf Life Saving NSW deploys drones to locate the shark and monitor for ongoing risks.
‘Tragically, one young female has been fatally killed by a shark, and there’s another male that’s been flown to hospital,’ Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive Steven Pearce told 2GB Radio.
‘This area is so remote, there’s no life guarding services up there at all.
‘These incidents are horrific for everyone, and unfortunately, we’ve had a few this year already.’
It comes less than three months after Mercury Psillakis, 57, was fatally mauled by shark while surfing at Long Reef Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches.
His widow Maria Psillakis called for shark alert systems to be overhauled at Sydney beaches earlier this month.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
