A routine night of football viewing in Nigeria descended into chaos on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, after a violent brawl erupted between Chelsea and Barcelona supporters during the English club’s 3-0 win over the Spanish giants.

Witnesses at the viewing centre said tensions began to rise shortly after Chelsea took a 1-0 lead, courtesy of an own-goal by Jules Kounde in the 27th minute.

The goal, which put the Premier League side ahead in a dominant display that eventually saw them defeat 10-man Barcelona, triggered an unexpected outbreak of violence among rival fans.

In the videos circulating on social media, a group of Chelsea and Barcelona supporters started trading heavy blows moments after the opener went in.

Chairs were kicked aside as punches flew, with several individuals attempting to separate the fighters but failing as the clash intensified.

The fight reportedly lasted for several minutes as other spectators scrambled to avoid the chaos. The match itself had already delivered drama on the pitch, with Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo receiving a second yellow card just before half-time.

Chelsea capitalised on the advantage, adding a stylish strike from Estevao in the 55th minute and a close-range finish by Liam Delap in the 73rd to seal a comfortable victory.

But at the Nigerian viewing centre, the football was overshadowed by the violence. It is unclear what sparked the confrontation, though observers suggest long-standing rivalry and rising match tension played significant roles.
