South African rapper, Nasty C, has opened up about his past lifestyle, admitting that he previously smoked and drank alcohol every single day.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on November 24, 2025, the award-winning rapper stated that although he would not describe his past behaviour as an addiction, it had become a strong habit he lived with for years.

According to him, living with friends and spending long hours in the studio made it easy for him to engage in smoking and drinking regularly.

“I’m now free from a lot like physical substances. I won’t say addictions because addiction sounds too strong of a word, it’s rather a habit. I used to smoke and drink alcohol every day and night. I used to be a heavy smoker,” he said.

Nasty C explained that his daily routine at the time made the habit difficult to break.

“I used to live with my friends and work in a studio. As soon as I wake up, we’re getting up to something. If we are not going outside, we are recording and other stuff. So the substances will be rolling in there but now I’m free from all of that,” he shared.

When asked how he managed to quit, Nasty C said he simply decided to walk away from the habits after they began affecting him negatively.

He disclosed that weed started making him anxious and paranoid, which pushed him to stop smoking entirely.

“I just stopped. Weed made me paranoid at some point and it made me anxious. I didn’t like that so I just decided to stop,” he noted.

On alcohol, he mentioned that although he has not completely quit, he drinks far less than he used to because he eventually found it unappealing.

“For alcohol, I felt it was boring. I’ve not really stopped actually but I don’t take alcohol like I used to,” he added.
