Rachel Reeves is in the ‘last-chance saloon’ and is ‘losing the room’ with voters ahead of Wednesday’s Budget, a leading pollster has warned.

The More In Common think-tank said Labour was running out of time to convince the public they are the right party to deal with the country’s challenges.

Luke Tryl, its executive director, said Ms Reeves had to find a way of keeping the public ‘on side’ tomorrow, as he shared damning polling.

The Chancellor and Prime Minister have both hit an all-time-low in their net approval ratings, with Sir Keir Starmer down to -51 and Ms Reeves on -52.

Voters are also pessimistic about the state of the economy, with 57 per cent unsure of whether the cost-of-living crisis will ever end.

More than two thirds believe public services are in a bad state, while 73 per cent think the same about the Government’s finances and British economy – all up since the last Budget.

Mr Tryl said: ‘There is a risk… that this could be a last-chance saloon moment for the Government. If you look across that data, [Reeves] is losing the room.’
