There are strong indications that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have attempted to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin from his position as Minority Leader in Parliament, according to veteran broadcaster Kwesi Pratt.
In a post on his X page on November 21, 2025, Kwesi Pratt stated that Afenyo-Markin “is not sitting pretty” and that a number of his colleagues want him out of the position.
“There are very strong indications that Minority leader in Parliament, the Honourable Afenyo-Markin is not sitting pretty and that there have been attempts to remove him,” he wrote.
Pratt added that comments made by Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, lend further weight to the claims.
Patrick Boamah rejects Minority Leader position
According to him, Patrick Boamah’s effort to clarify his role in previous events confirms that there were attempts to remove Afenyo-Markin when he served as Majority Leader in the ninth Parliament.
“In an effort to distance himself from a plot to remove Afenyo-Markin, Patrick Yaw Boamah, a respected NPP Member of Parliament has confirmed that there were serious moves to take the Efutu MP out as Majority leader in the 9th Parliament,” he stated.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on November 17, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah explained that he was among those who defended Afenyo-Markin when some individuals tried to unseat him.
“I was one of the people who defended him when some individuals tried to unseat him (Afenyo-Markin). We are grooming young leaders in the party, so there was no need to change him. At that point, he hadn’t even served a full year as Majority leader before we lost the election,” he said.
When Boamah was asked if he was preparing to run for the presidency, he replied, “God has his time for everything. I am qualified to run for the presidential primaries, but I believe everything must happen at the right time.”
