Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artiste, Samini, has opened up about the level of effort and scrutiny he puts into his music before releasing it to the public.

Speaking in an interview with Anita Akuffo on TV3 on November 20, 2025, the music legend explained that although the industry continues to evolve, he still places high value on lyrical quality and meaningful messages.

According to Samini, music from his era was characterised by deeper attention to lyrical content, something he believes is gradually fading in today’s music space.

“A lot of work goes into my music before it comes out. We come from an era where people care about your choice of words. Your lyrics are critiqued,” he said.

He noted that the current generation of artistes often focuses more on rhythm and catchy hooks rather than the substance of their lyrics.

“These days, people don’t really pay too much attention to what you’re saying. Once the groove is good, and you have a catchy phrase, everybody goes with it,” he stated.

Despite the shift in listener preference, Samini emphasised that he remains committed to crafting thoughtful music that carries a message.

He stressed that he cannot release a song without thoroughly reviewing and refining his lyrics.

“I’m kind of, I can’t afford to not check what I wrote and not cross-check to make sure it makes sense and it has a certain message at least. All of these things go into it and it makes us kind of different from today’s creatives,” he shared.

He also acknowledged that today’s creatives influence veteran musicians, pushing them to adapt to current trends, yet without compromising their artistic identity.

“Today’s creatives also inspire what we do because we have to now meet what today’s listener gravitates to. While trying to do that, we don’t also water down what we had known for so it’s quite a delicate state to be at, but I’m enjoying every bit of it,” he added.
