The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has suspended all police leave for the rest of the year as the Ghana Police Service rolls out Operation Disaster-Free Christmas.

The initiative is aimed at boosting safety and tightening security across the country during the festive season.

The directive was announced by the Jamestown District Police Commander, Superintendent William Abisah, during a briefing on preparations for the Christmas operations.

According to him, officers have already begun day and night patrols as part of their annual festive-season duties.

“I’m here to present our operational plan for the Christmas festivities. As we all know, the season is approaching, and our patrols are already underway. I also want to inform you that the IGP has banned leave for all police officers. We are preparing seriously for Christmas,” he said.

The operation is expected to increase police visibility, prevent crime, and ensure a safe environment for all Ghanaians.

Officers across the country traditionally work throughout the festive period to maintain law and order and safeguard lives and property.

With the new directive, all officers, whether in uniform or plain clothes, will be on duty to support public safety efforts during Christmas and the New Year.

The Police Service maintains that public safety remains a top priority and has assured the public that it will do everything necessary to make the festive season peaceful and secure for everyone.
